James II, Gold Two Guineas (1687–1688), Kingdom of England
Struck exclusively in 1687 and 1688 at the Tower of London Mint, the gold two guineas of King James II represents one of the rarest regular milled Stuart gold denominations. Designed by Chief Engraver John Roettiers, the coin pairs a laureate bust with a cruciform heraldic reverse. Unlike other gold denominations of the reign, the two guineas was never issued with the Royal African Company elephant-and-castle provenance mark.
